Buster overlooked again [Jul. 3rd, 2013|03:05 pm]

Entertainment Weekly magazine released their top 100 films issue and guess who wasn't included?! I was so disappointed. I even wrote a letter to the editor about it. I know Chaplin is a legend, but Buster's films are so much better (well I think anyway). I would have included "Sherlock Jr", but most of the time critics pick "The General". What would you pick?

Keaton Remembered [Oct. 29th, 2012|10:55 am]

Has anyone seen Buster Keaton Remembered, the giant book that came out a few years ago? It's out of print now, and of course, my library doesn't have it, but I hear it's chock full of pictures. I just was wondering if it's just as wonderful as it sounds. Maybe some day I can afford to buy it used or luck out and find it at a book sale. I can always dream!

An Evening at the Buster Keaton Estate [Sep. 7th, 2012|04:20 pm]

This isn't something I can afford, but I thought just in case there was someone out there that could I should spread the word.

An Evening at the Buster Keaton Estate - To Benefit the Los Angeles Conservancy

It's being held on October 6, two days after Buster's birthday, and tickets/sponsorships run between $300 to $10,000.

See why I said I couldn't afford it? Still, if I had that kind of money to throw around, I'd be there in a heartbeat. It's a great cause and a rare opportunity to explore the Italian Villa.

Besides MGM... [Mar. 5th, 2012|11:04 am]

We all know how MGM basically killed Buster's career. I wonder, would another studio have given him the same creative control that he had been used to? Maybe Paramount? From the way MGM treated him, he would have had better luck at Warner Bros, with all their gangster movies!

Hey guys, I've searched for ages and went back hundreds of pages but can't find it. Someone on this community had an amazing Buster tattoo and as I'm planning to get a Buster tattoo myself, I wanted to see it again for inspiration (don't worry, I will NOT steal the design, I promise).

Hope someone can help!

New Keaton Fan [Dec. 2nd, 2011|10:52 am]

Just wanted to drop by and wave. I'm becoming a huge Keatn fan. I had never really gotten into his work before, mainly because I have a love/hate relationship with silent films. But then when he was TCM's star of the month a couple of months ago, I got hooked. I've been trying to see all of his films that I can via Netflix and my public library. I've even read his autobiography and a few other books about him. He was such a great comedian and wonderful guy and I'm glad there are other fans out there.

Does there exist any audio clips of Buster from before the talkies? I'm thinking radio interviews, specifically. I guess I highly doubt anything like that still exists, but I'm hoping someone here will prove me wrong.

Industrial Strength Buster [Jul. 23rd, 2011|09:48 am]

Not silent Buster, but I thought this was something folks would want to know about. Over at Oldies.com, the two-disc set Industrial Strength: Classic Commercials, Industrial Films & Archival Rarities is on sale for $4.98.

Also on sale over there is The Forgotten Films of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. They've got it for $14.98. The four-disc set regularly retails for $49.95.

I'm certain there are a lot of other great stuff on sale that I'm not mentioning. It's one of my favorite online stores and I never fail to find gems for a reasonable price over there.
